What, do you suppose, would cause the U.S. government to forfeit its "right" to rule?

Update:

Chewy Ivan 2: "and the US military is sworn to defend the Constitution."

What should happen if the military fails?

This is based on an actual situation.

Update 2:

Lara: I mean the government such as those "elected" to manage the affairs of the nation of U.S. citizens.

    "the U.S. government "?

You mean, the people of the US?

If the US government does something so blatantly unconstitutional that the US military decides to pull a coup. The "right" to rule is ultimately upheld by military might, and the US military is sworn to defend the Constitution.
