How to get spray paint off of rims?

So I bought this car and the people who owned it before the people I bought it from were like crazy tweakers and they spray painted the rims of this car like an ugly dark blue color and I've been trying to figure out how to get it off the rims and I've tried this car paint thinner stuff that didnt work what so ever, I sat there for 2 hours with a razor blade gently scraping it off because it's already chipped, is there anything I can do or use to get the paint off quicker without ruining the chrome?

Paint stripper. Fortunately you at least mentioned what you were trying to get off of what. Paint off of Chrome. Chrome is resilient to many chemicals so would not be afraid of using anything. Except heat or sandpaper. The paint is dry so NO paint thinners will work. Go into a paint store and get a chemical PAINT STRIPPER. Follow the directions on the can which is brush it on. with a NATURAL BRISTLE BRUSH. (The latex only brushes will melt.) MEK you don't want. It is an unhealthy paint thinner.

Lacquer thinner MIGHT TOUCH the hardened on paint .

ACETONE might. Acetone is fingernail polish remover so gf might have that in a small amount to put on rag and test a spot and work the rag to see if it dissolves? Lacquer thinner is a different chemical than acetone...and you might be able to get a pint of it. Which is a lot if it does not work. Soak a cloth rag with it and lay the rag on the painted surface in the shade and put a rock or board on it to apply pressure to the clump of rag out on the lawn...away from a building or dry wood pile. Not saying it will spontaneously combust into flames but always that possibility. Do not smoke. Let it sit for 15 minutes and then remove rag and see if paint is getting soft using your fingernail to scratch it. If paint is still rock hard...lacquer thinner is not gonna do it. Nor will gasoline. Gas is the most dangerous with flames potential.

. I have heard brake fluid strips paint, but that is such an oily mess and probably slow too so not even worth considering. I am looking for something that is relatively fast.

Always goes back to chemical paint stripper.

So much info, you can choke a horse.

Paint Stripper for sure. Apply in the shade outside and wait several hours then scrape off using a wooden scraper as you feel with the edge of your wood scraper to see if the paint is soft.(I would use a 2x2 & a 1x2 cut at a 45degree angle as a scraper tool).

Metal scraper will scratch the chrome and plastic scraper will be dissolved by the stripper. You don't want to pss around with a razor blade for that is deadly slow. Rubber gloves are also kind of useless as the stripper eats through them...they tear...easily. Then you scrape off as much of the paint mess as possible and then use a natural bristle floor scrubbing brush like they use to hand scrub floors or stuff? If it is plastic bristles, the bristles melt together. and soap and hot water to get the rest of the goop(dissolved paint&paint thinner) off as it sticks like honey. It won't kill the lawn so you could do it there on the rinse down. The boiling hot water will burn the grass...so you do that on gravel or weeds.

I had to strip paint off of a 125 year old building that had the columns like the White House has and those curly things(the capital) at the top which was molded clay ornamentation. So the poles were wood and the collars were wood so i could use steel tools as all the old paint had to come off. The capital,(scrolls) were Gothic style and I had to use metal tools like those for picking out the nuts in the shell just to scrape the layers of paint off to the original layer carefully without damaging the original clay scroll. Any soft paint globs left behind get rock hard in a day making it harder to get off...when more paint stripper is applied. That is why you want to get off as much as possible with the scraper while it is still soft. Fortunately you do not have 125 years worth of ? paints to get off of a soft surface.

. However, just because I know this too, the paint may be covering rims that are not perfectly silver chrome...it may have black spots on it which is in the metal. They were in a fire which discolored the chrome.

Also, only because I know what razor blade you are using....a shaving razor blade like Gillette. Wrong razor blade. Go to the paint department in say Wal Mart and ask for single edge razor blades. Paperhangers use them all the time. It may be in Housewares too(because WM is F up at times) These are tougher blades and you can hold them between your fingers. You get 5 in a package. Use them like you would push a snow shovel on the sidewalk. Dirt on the rims scratch them . Not steel on chrome steel. ALSO STEEL WOOL is a maybe. I use an SOS pad on kitchen chrome and it does not scratch the chrome. Never use SANDPAPER. Sand=dirt and dirt scratches.

(I have been trying to recall the brand name of a paint stripper that works super good so is cheaper and more effective than the others. I googled, can't find it. Aircraft paint stripper sounds costly and more potent than you need. Strippers/varnish removers used on furniture or wood will do fine.

Unfortunately, everyone is going eco nuts so the safe alternatives generally are weaker than mosquito Pee strippers. And you don't want a caustic remover like Lime for that could damage the chrome...you want a chemical remover. You don't want heat or fire also for that discolors the chrome. You can't use an abrasive like sand blasting.. That will take off the chrome plate.

. I used stripper back in the day when everything was LEGAL. Even washed paint off my arms and legs after a day of paint the fence with brother wars. Yeah, may have burned off my leg hairs permanently & could feel the burning on the legs from the harsh chemicals, but we still are alive.

Paint thinners can be used to remove paint while that paint is still wet(so up to 24 hours) after that it is as useful as puke. No effect.

So much info, you can choke a horse.

I don't use strippers. I sand and repaint what I work on. I don't get painted chrome rims. That is such a bother.

Painter 25+ years...you could ask a paint store.
