The official JW web site does not recognise the expressions replacement theology or supercessionism. It does, however say this about the Israel of God and Spiritual Israel:

Israel of God - Insight on the Scriptures, Volume 1, p 1234: This expression, found only once in Scripture, refers to spiritual Israel rather than to racial descendants of Jacob, whose name was changed to Israel. (Ge 32:22-28) The Bible speaks of “Israel in a fleshly way” (1Co 10:18), as well as spiritual Israel made up of those for whom descent from Abraham is not a requirement. (Mt 3:9) The apostle Paul, when using the expression “the Israel of God,” shows that it has nothing to do with whether one is a circumcised descendant of Abraham or not... The 12 tribes mentioned in Revelation chapter 7 must refer to this spiritual Israel... those standing on the heavenly Mount Zion with the Lamb (whom natural Israel had rejected) revealed the number of this spiritual Israel of God to be 144,000 “bought from among mankind.” Persons comprising the anointed Christian congregation of God are spiritual Israelites, forming the tribes of spiritual Israel. (Re 7:4-8)

Kingdom of God – Insight on the Scriptures, Volume 2, p 159-170: Christ’s kingdom from Pentecost of 33 C.E. onward has been a spiritual one ruling over spiritual Israel, Christians who have been begotten by God’s spirit to become the spiritual children of God. (Joh 3:3, 5, 6) When such spirit-begotten Christians receive their heavenly reward, they will no longer be earthly subjects of the spiritual kingdom of Christ, but they will be kings with Christ in heaven.—Re 5:9, 10.

In other words, they believe that since 33 C.E. Jehovah abandoned natural Israel (because they had rejected Christ Jesus), and that a select few (limited to only 144,000 persons) who alone are “anointed” by Jehovah’s spirit now make up “spiritual Israel”. Their “anointed remnant” or “elect” make up “Christ’s brothers” (about 19,500 this time last year). They have a heavenly hope, they partake of the bread and wine and they claim to be “anointed” by God’s spirit. The “great crowd” who follow them and who have an earthly hope are excluded from the above.

So, yes, they have a form of replacement theology, but they believe only Jehovah’s Witnesses are the true Church and out of 8.3 million Witnesses, only some 19,000 are in the new covenant.

    hi there

yes the part of replacement theology they believe is the part where they are israel now, they are christianity now, and all the blessings go to them.

the bit they don't believe is where they don't inherit any of the curses, which go to "christendom".

and they don't believe the bit where the definition of synagogue of satan is where you claim to be a jew but you are not. oh no can't have that one. they are the jews now but oh no not a synagogue of satan it is jehovah's organization the organization said so and since it is jehovahs organization it must be true

    Question about “replacement theology”

Jul 1, 2011 by Doug Shields

I received the following question from a reader:

Hi, thank you for your last response. I would like to ask you about Jehovah Witness and replacement theology. They tell me they are the spiritual Israel but deny that they know anything about replacement theology. Does that mean they believe they have replaced the Jews? I have read that there are other religions that believe in replacement theology. That they are the spiritual Jews. So this stance is not held by just the Jehovah Witness. I have also read that replacement theology was believed by a lot of churches in Europe and that is one of the reasons that antisemitism was able to take hold so easily in the era of Hitler. Thank You

    Thank you for your question!

To give an answer without the Bible would be to invite error. Israel as a nation began in 1513 BCE when Israel as a people declared affirmation to the Law. Read for yourself in Exodus 24:3-8 how the law code was accepted. Focus on verse 7 which reads in modern English.."Then he took the book of the covenant and read it aloud to the people. And they said: “All that Jehovah has spoken we are willing to do, and we will be obedient.”

A warning was given to the nation about being obedient as the nation had promised. Look to Leviticus 17 and start reading at verse 14. In short Israel would be rejected.

Not the fear of the Jews after the resurrection of Jesus friend Lazarus as recorded in John 11:47, 48.... " So the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered the Sanʹhe·drin together and said: “What are we to do, for this man performs many signs? 48 If we let him go on this way, they will all put faith in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation."

The Romans did come a few years later. The Romans did take away their place of power. The Romans did take away the nation totally. When Jerusalem was sacked in 70CE only some 90,000 prisoners were alive to take back to Rome. If you travel to Rome, Italy today you can dee the Titus Arch commemorating the destruction of Jerusalem. In that destruction was the burning of the temple and all that was within, That included all the genealogical records showing every Jew to which tribe he belonged, Today not one Jew can rightly claim to be from any tribe. No one can claim to be of the tribe of Levi where all priests were required to be born. Thus the Jews can only have a Rabbi (teacher). As a nation the Jews do not exist. The present day nation of Israel is a political republic, not a theocracy.

The Christian Congregation with Jesus as its appointed King does in fact replace Israel, The Kingdom of God with Jesus the Messiah as king, has the legal right to rule over mankind. His ransom sacrifice provided the purchase price so that Jesus owns the human family whether a person chooses to believe or not, This is just as the prophecy at Isaiah 9:6 tell us all.

That Kingdom is very real and has great power. In our future it will replace all governments on earth thus uniting the human family and provide benefits which governments of today cannot even conceive. At present that kingdom is building a population which will survive the removal of all opposition to God. How many million will be in that beginning population is unknown, The Bible only tells us the number is uncountable. see Revelation 7:9-17.

Every true Christian today is doing their best to follow Jesus command to make more Christians, See Mathew 28:18-20. Every true Christian is learning to copy Jesus way of life and become the kind of person God will approve. That is not easy. But it is the most joyful way of living any can imagine.

These Christians are right now preparing to gather together as one united congregation all around the world to commemorate what is called the Lord's Evening meal to which he ordered his disciples to keep doing in remembrance of him. See Luke 22:19, 20

I can and do invite any who choose to read this answer to be at that celebration and learn more Bible truth about the Son of God, Jesus Christ. You can find a local to you place and time by looking here...

So does Jesus Christ. Even a broken clock is right, twice a day.

  • I do not believe so.... in any case.... that is a FALSE doctrine.... The Nation of Israel remains The Nation of Israel(all Jews).... and God's Church remains The Church.... ans The Body of God's Church is made up of all those of The True Christian Faith....and... those Jews who manage to complete the Salvation process... thus assuring their place in Heaven....

    Edit 2

Being the Body of Christ, doesn't change the fact that the Christian Congregation is also the bride of Christ.

Being the Bride of Christ, doesn't change the fact that the Christian Congregation is also the new creation, the Israel of God.

(Galatians 6:15, 16) “15 For neither is circumcision [fleshly Jew] anything nor is uncircumcision [fleshly Gentile], but a new creation [the Christian Congregation] is. 16 As for all those who walk orderly by this rule of conduct, peace and mercy be upon them, yes, upon the Israel of God [the Christian Congregation].”

    -------------

    Edit:

(Romans 11:1) “11 I ask, then, God did not reject his people, did he? By no means! For I too am an Israelite, of the offspring of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin.”

The very fact that Paul an Israelite became a Christian shows Jehovah 'didn't' reject his people.

Salvation is open to both fleshly Jews and fleshly Gentiles.

(Romans 11:4, 5) “. . .“I have left for myself 7,000 men who have not bent the knee to Baʹal.” 5 So in the same way, at the present time also, there is a remnant according to a choosing through undeserved kindness.”

There are a remnant of fleshly Jews who have accepted Jehovah's underserved kindness and have become Christians, Especially during the 1st three and half years, only fleshly Jews or Jewish proselytes became Christians.

(Romans 11:14) “14 to see if I may in some way incite my own people to jealousy and save some from among them. . .”

The way of salvation was still open to them, How? By some becoming Christians.

Rom 11:17-24 tells us of the olive tree where natural (fleshly) Jews were being cut off so wild (fleshly Gentiles) branches were being added.

What does the tree represent? God's chosen people, the Christian Congregation.

(Romans 11:25) “. . .come upon Israel until the full number of people of the nations has come in,”

The full number is the complete number making up Spiritual Israel, made up of both fleshly Jews and fleshly Gentiles.

(Romans 11:26) “.  . .[in this way G3779] in this manner all Israel will be saved. . . .”

Strong's: G3779 οὕτω houtō hoo'-to: in this way (referring to what precedes or follows): this manner,

In what manner or in what way?

By taking wild olive branches and natural olive branches joining them together so they become one nation: Spiritual Israel also known as the Israel of God. The spiritual nation described at Revelation 7.

Paul starts out the Book of Romans telling us who is the Jew today.

(Romans 2:28, 29) “28 For he is not a Jew who is one on the outside, nor is circumcision something on the outside, on the flesh. 29 But he is a Jew who is one on the inside, and his circumcision is that of the heart by spirit and not by a written code. That person’s praise comes from God, not from people.”

Who is a Jew today? Who is an Israelite today? The Christian.

Who is God's chosen people today? Who is the nation of Israel today? The Christian Congregation.

(1 Peter 2:9, 10) “9 But you [the Christians] are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for special possession, that you should declare abroad the excellencies” of the One who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 For you were once not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not been shown mercy, but now you have received mercy.”

    --------

If you mean, who is the Israel of God today?

The Israel of God today is the Christian Congregation

The Jew of the heart and not the Jew of the flesh.

For a fleshly Jew to become acceptable to God, they must become a christian.

The Law Covenant with Moses as the mediator has been replace with the New Covenant with Jesus as the mediator.

Please understand it was only the Law Covenant that was nailed along with Jesus; which means 99% of what people call the Old Testament still applies today, especially the many prophecies we seeing fulfilled today.
