Jesus...the son of God or?

God himself? Some say he is God while others say he is the son of God. If he IS God why would he ask himself why he has been forsaken when he was on the cross. I believe he is the son of God sent here by God to help us. (A true role model for how we should be). Can anyone offer any insight into this beyond the cryptic descriptions in the Bible.

Yes. That Jehovah was truly the Father or Life-Giver to this firstborn Son and, hence, that this Son was actually a creature of God is evident from Jesus’ own statements. He pointed to God as the Source of his life, saying, “I live because of the Father.” According to the context, this meant that his life resulted from or was caused by his Father, even as the gaining of life by dying men would result from their faith in Jesus’ ransom sacrifice.

According to the Bible, Jesus said "I have come to to do the will of my father". If Jesus was God (as some erroneously claim), he would have have said "I have come to do my will". It's not that complicated, I guess trinitarians are still struggling with The Emperor's New Clothes!

    1) Jesus...the son of God or?

    Edit

    God himself?

You have presented what is known in logic as a "false dichotomy".

In fact (if we accept what the Bible teaches) Jesus is both the son of God and God.

    2) Some say he is God while others say he is the son of God.

    Inaccurate and misleading.

Some say he is God AND the son of God.

Some say he is the son of God but NOT God.

I don't know of anyone who says that he is God but NOT the son of God.

    3) If he IS God why would he ask himself why he has been forsaken when he was on the cross.

    He wouldn't and he didn't.

Indisputably he was quoting Scripture - in particular, this Scripture:

    4) I believe he is the son of God sent here by God to help us. (A true role model for how we should be). Can anyone offer any insight into this beyond the cryptic descriptions in the Bible.

Yes. Please read the following CAREFULLY.

It’s not really the Son of God, but God the Son. He is the second member of the trinity.

Do I hear these questions from the Witnesses of the Watchtower many times? Because they do not believe that Jesus is God, manifested in his own Deity as a man.

It is written in the sacred bible where it speaks of Jesus Christ as the son of God, but in biblical contexts, does Jesus Himself say He is like the Father, in essence equal to God?

Can there be two gods? No!

When Jesus said he was God, how come, the Father didn't call him back, telling him what you say? Huh!

    John 14:8-10.

8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him,Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

And again, as Jesus never told Martha, the sister of Lazarus who had died, Am I the resurrection and life?

But he did not say, "Jehovah is, the resurrection? By equalling God?

Can there be two Gods? No!

One God, in his own Deity, Father, Son, Holy Spirit, three equal and distinct people are the Deity of God!

    John 11: 21.

Martha then said to Jesus, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died; 22 and even now I know that everything you ask of God, God will give you. 23 Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again. 24 Martha said to him, "I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day. 25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live; 26 and whoever lives and believes in me, will never die. 27 She said to him, "Yes, Lord, I believe.

And again, as Jesus never told Martha, the sister of Lazarus who had died, Am I the resurrection and life?

But he did not say, "Jehovah is, the resurrection? By equalling God?

Jesus tells us about three people? Or three things?

    People work, things don't!

    Matthew 28:19-20.

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

    Well! You know what?

I believe in the Deity of God, I love God, I love Jesus, I love the Holy Spirit of God, because he is great, the mystery of God in his Deity!

God has revealed Himself to us as Redeemer! God is Eternal, and personal.

God, the God of the Past

In his statement to Moses, God declared himself the Eternal God, and also the God of history. I vv. 14:15 declare:

14 "God said to Moses, "I am who I am". Then he said, "You will say this to the children of Israel: "The I AM sent me to you. 15 And God said unto Moses, Thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob hath sent me unto you. Such is my name for ever; so will I be invoked from generation to generation. (Exodus 3:14-15 NRV)

God commanded Moses to present Him to the Jews as the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. In other words, what God had revealed of Himself to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, was also true in the time of Moses, because God does not change. What God reveals about Himself to the people of that time is always valid, because God never changes.

By presenting himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, God was committing himself to fulfilling the covenant he had made with them. That is, when God refers to the past, we can know that what was true of God yesterday is true of God even today. The promises that God made yesterday are still valid today. The covenant that God made yesterday, He will keep to the end today. This is the person of God. I am the One I am.

As an example of this, God had promised Abraham to free his descendants from the slavery of Egypt. God cannot deny Himself. God will always do what He has declared to do, because this is part of His character. He is what He is, and it cannot be one thing today, and another thing tomorrow. Therefore, the name of God helps us to understand this aspect of the person of God as well.

If we think of an application of this, all the promises that God has made to us in the past are still safe today. What God was for us yesterday, He is today, and will be tomorrow. The promises made yesterday are also a reality today. The reality that God never changes is more certain than any other reality, because God is the eternal God, the same today as He was in the past, and that will remain for all eternity.

    Jesus Christ I AM

When we consider examples where the Bible uses God's name "I am who I am", or the abbreviated form "I am", we must also look into the New Testament.

In the New Testament, Jesus Christ uses this same name, I AM, to describe Himself. In other words, Christ uses the name of God, who belongs only to God and no one else, for Himself, and in this way, He declares Himself to be God.

We note this in John 6, when the disciples saw Jesus walking on water. They were frightened. To calm them down, Jesus declared:

"But he said to them, "It's me, don't be afraid." (John 6:20 NRV)

In Italian, the translators wrote "I am IO", but in Greek, the term is: Ego Eimi, which literally means "I am". In this sentence, there is nothing afterwards, as for example there is in John 6, where Jesus declares: "I am the bread of life. Usually, the phrase "I am" is followed by a preaching, for example, I am Italian, I am a husband, I am happy. It is not common to use the words "I am" without indicating a predicate.

But in this case, with the disciples, Jesus does as the LORD did in the OT. Jesus simply declares: I AM. That is why the disciples did not have to fear.

In John 4, Jesus speaks to the Samaritan woman. Let us read vv.25,26

"25 The woman said to him, "I know that the Messiah (who is called Christ) must come; when he comes he will announce all things to us. 26 Jesus said to her, "I am the one who speaks to you!" (John 4:25-26 NRV)

The New Diodati translates Jesus' response better. It says, "Jesus said to her, "I am the one who speaks to you." (John 4:26 LND)

Here too, the words of Christ, in Greek, are Ego Eimi, "I am", the name of God.

Then, in John 8, Jesus speaks to the Jews. Three times, he declares "I am", Ego Eimi.

"Therefore I have told you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am, you will die in your sins. (John 8:24 NRV)

"Jesus then said to them, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am, and that I do nothing of my own, but I say these things as the Father taught me. (John 8:28 NRV)

"56 "Abraham, your father, rejoiced in expectation of seeing my day; and he saw it, and rejoiced in it. 57 The Jews said to him, "You are not yet fifty years old and you saw Abraham?" 58 Jesus said to them, "Verily, verily, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am". (John 8:56-58 NRV)

In each of these passages, Jesus Christ identifies himself as "I am", which is the name of God. Jesus Christ is the Eternal God, the One who was, who is, and who will be.

  • Am I Man or The Son Of Man.....or both?

Jesus is God, who humbled himself to be a man, and so did everything like a man

Phil 2: 5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it [b]robbery to be equal with God, 7 but [c]made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

John 1 Tells us that Jesus is the Creator and that by him ALL things were made, seen and unseen

First you need to realize that all Human Beings are born sinners, in need of salvation. We are all born spiritually dead in Adam's trespasses and sins and only Christ can make us alive (Ephesians 2: 1 & 5) - therefore we deserve to die for our sins as punishment to appease God the Father Almighty.

That's why we are all born to die spiritually as well as physically.

However, if there could be a sacrifice for our sins, God's wrath could be appeased.

Well God Himself was the only One good enough, perfect enough, to be our sacrifice for sins, so He - God Himself, came to earth in the flesh and blood body of Jesus Christ the Saviour of the world (John 1:14).

In other words, God was/is our Saviour, but God is Spirit (John 4:24) and of course, a Spirit cannot be crucified on the Cross and have His blood shed as a sacrifice for our sins.

So God came in flesh (Jesus Christ) who then died for us on the Cross, because He was the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

Because God came in the flesh and blood body of a human being, He had to have a Name and His Name was prophesied to be "Immanuel" which being interpreted means God with us because Jesus is God.

He was also called "Jesus" because He would save His people from their sins " ( Matthew 1:25).

So you can be rest assured that Jesus was GOD IN FLESH when He walked this earth . That's why He was able to walk on water, change water into wine, multiply the fish and bread for multitudes of people, raise the dead, heal 10 blind men at the same time, cleanse the lepers etc, because only God can do these things and when people saw these miracles they believed in Him as the prophesied Messiah and followed Him and He saved them.

That's what He is doing now, saving people from our sins.

We all need to be saved. There isn't one righteous among us because ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

So turn to Christ and you can be saved.

Both. The Godhead is made up of 3 persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. When He spoke to God while He was on earth, He addressed Him as His Father. He was speaking to His Father from the point of His earthly condition at the time. This was probably for our benefit since humans would better understand the father/son connection.

He is God, because God called him "God". From that point on it doesn't matter what anyone else says about it. jesus is God. He is also the son of God in relation to God the Father.

    HOW can that be????

    Because God multitasks.

    Hebrews 1

8 But about the Son he says,

    “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;

a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.

    9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;

therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions

by anointing you with the oil of joy.”[e]
