Apathetic community college teachers?

I noticed teachers genuinely dont care if their students pass or fail.

Im paying them to learn and I get apathy.

At a new job I get payed to learn -_-...

What do you think, should teachers be more emotionally invested in their job?

That saddens me to hear. When I took community college classes, my teachers were very invested in student learning.

My recommendation is to get to know the teachers more if you can. Go to office hours, show up early to class or stay a few minutes afterward. Ask questions about the material that show that you're interested in learning. You may or may not see an improvement, but it can't hurt to try.

If it's really bad, I would talk to someone in the dean's office about it. Part of their job is to care and they shouldn't be working there if they don't.

Teachers at all levels provide the information and knowledge to the students. If the students want to learn, they will! It is up to the student to pass the course. The teacher can not force knowledge. If a student feels they need help with a subject, they can ask for it or hire a Tudor. Remember you are in College and are suppose to be an Adult. you need to make things happen for success!

Honestly it’s hard with big classes and so many students. And you only have them for 4 months. It’s nice to see people do well but most don’t bother to learn names.

Jobs these days rarely pay for training. Employers want people who have something of value to offer already. And professors respond to students who are genuinely interested, ask questions, participate in discussions, and show enthusiasm for learning.

Its been my experience that (contrary to what is generally said) the vast majority of professors do care about how a student does, *if* that student shows he wants to learn. Those are the students who attend regularly and on-time, do their assignments, and participate in the class.

As a professor, I can tell you that we have great apathy for students who are putting in the effort and need help. We have pretty much zero apathy for students that skip class, don't turn in assignments, and don't come to office hours....then a week before the final they ask for help on 5 different assignments that you went over in class on the days they skipped.

Well, it isn't high school anymore. CC instructors do their best to help their students pass their classes. They meet with them individually, refer them to tutoring when appropriate, and strive to update and improve their teaching methods. They submit "early alerts" on students who are falling behind and college counselors contact those students.

But many students simply don't turn in their work and fail mid-term and final exams. Teachers can't take that personally because it would simply lead to too much frustration.

Teachers do care. However, it’s up to YOU to make sure you pass. College students are ADULTS and no one is going to hold your hand and babysit you. You have to take responsibility and seek help for your classes if you’re having any trouble.

    No.

Keep in mind that you are ONE of THOUSANDS of students that teacher has to teach.

They can't care about every single one of them all of the time.
