In the Politics section it seems the US is the default setting. In News & Events it seems it's the UK. It would be useful if posters from outside the default areas clarified where they are posting from if that affects the answer.

For the same reason people ASKING questions that depend on local law rarely make the equivalent statement.

I could tell you why they do that, but you failed to say up front which county you are in.

It seems that most people are unaware that this site, and other similar sites, are "world-wide", and thus they simply assume that any respondents will be from the same country that the questioner is in.

Dare I say it, that habit seems very prevalent in people who live in the USA!

Probably useful ,as well as interesting -- though some might then see it as a first step towards the slippery slope of demanding a wider profile including race , ethnicity , sex ,religion etc etc .

Years ago, there was a country tag on each question but Yahoo dropped it. It was very useful. Now we have to guess.

I agree. Everyone here thinks that all Qs come from the US even when they say U.K.

I think some people just don t realise that a question in English could be addressed to anyone in the English speaking world which these days includes a lot of people in countries where English is not most people s first language.
