how to politely go about bringing up needed work hours (even on days with no patients) - work in dental office.?

I started working as a dental assistant recently and I need to work a certain amount of hours per week in order to meet my financial allocations. how do I politely bring this up? I'm never good at these things bc I always come off to direct. of course we are considering the doctors needs

They aren't going to pay you to work on days with no patients. That's the way the profession works. If you aren't getting the hours you need, you may have to look for a position at another practice. If they could give you fixed days, you might be able to take another part time position at another practice.

You don't. The hours you get depend on your employer's needs, not yours. Look for another job or a second job.

Unless you made it clear when you were hired that you need a specific number of hours, or salary, there's not much you can do now.

If you're a dental assistant and there's a day with no patients, what would you do?
