I doubt that there are any accurate statistics for this sort of thing but its safe to say that its not a common occurrence, and that few people would choose that lifestyle if they had a choice. Most people would not end up in this situation unless they has a mood disroder or psychiatric problem that was holding them back. If you are in this situation and want a way out, it might be worthwhile seeing a doctor to discuss your mood and anything else that is bothering you.
