If you worked in Accounts Payable or Accounts Receivable, did you ever have trouble getting time off at the end of the year?

I work retail. There is generally no vacation time, no personal time, no extra days off between Thanksgiving and New Year's day.

My man-friend wanted to go away for a few days around Christmas to see his daughters. I said, have a nice trip, I can't go. Then he said maybe next year, the girls and their families can come up, and he'll rent a condo for all of us a couple hours away, say, the weekend before Christmas. And I said, "Have fun! I won't be there." How about the year year after that, he said? And I said "Every year it will be the same. No time off between Thanksgiving and New Years. None. Zero. Ever."

I work at the customers' convenience, and my boss's.

On Y2K, my sister was actually AT WORK New Year's eve, I mean up until after midnight. My brother-in-law and husband were on call, and had to be available to go to work at a moment's notice.

There are always end of the fiscal year activities to contend with in accounting. So it is possible that your work may require your presence depending upon your responsibilities.

There aren't a lot of jobs that allow you off at the end of the year.

Most restaurant and retail companies don't allow any employees off, including corporate employees between mid-Nov and the 1st week of January.

Even IT, HR, etc usually have year end projects.
