Why are so many people against banning assault weapons? Do they get money from the NRA like trump too?

As far as instruments of deaths, the so called assault rifle is one of the safest products on the market.
Interestingly the instrument used to do a colonoscopy is more deadly based on number of deaths per unit.
Based on the number of units in use the assault rifle is safer to have then most FDA approved medications.
One year 348 people died because of bath tubs. That is more people then were killed by some one using an assault rife.
The other thing is no one can agree on what makes a rifle that I can buy is an assault rifle and what does not. The SKS was at one time a state of the art military rifle. It is a semi-automatic and has a bayonet mount. It can be modified to have a "pistol grip". However it only has a five round clip. Then there is the A3-03 a highly prized sniper rifle which is military grade and has a bayonet mount. It too can be modified to have a pistol grip. It is a bolt action rifle- but still military grade. It was the assault rifle of WWI and was used well into the 1980's and maybe later by elite US military forces.
Now the AR-15 is just a semi-automatic rifle of a design the US army rejected. It was rejected because of reliability issues. The military counter part had a bad tendency to "jam" in rapid fire situations. Which by the way is exactly what has happened in most shootings they were used in.
So it is kind of silly to ban a rifle that has a poor reliability record because it is used in less then 1% of the crimes in the US and force the would be criminal to procure a more reliable fire arm.
Heaven help us if they ever develop a semi-automatic colonoscopy scope that can be purchased over the counter!

There is no such weapon as an assault weapon. It was a name made up by Democrats who want to take gun rights away. That is what Hitler did, and it worked for awhile.

We have said it time and time again, We were given the right to own the same firepower as the military in case if we had to protect ourselves from a tyrannical government that attempts to take our rights away, we as the citizens of America are allowed to form a militia to fight back and overthrow a tyrannical government, since there are more armed citizens in America we already out number the military in size making it easier to fight back against a tyrannical government, even though we escaped a tyrannical government over 200 years ago doesn't mean it can't happen again.

Well, I'm personally against an "assault weapons" ban because we can't even seem to agree what an assault weapon is. People complain about AR-15s but seemingly have no problem with semi-automatic hunting rifles of a similar size that fire the same type of round. So what about it that makes AR-15s "bad" and the other "okay"? Is it the collapsing stock? The rails for attachments? The high-capacity mags? What?

it's the "I'm scared....but way too lazy to think through the details critically... so let's just let the State have whatever power they deem necessary to save us from ourselves" mentality that many are against....
not surprised you haven't recognized that ....

1. An assault rifle is considered a fully automatic rifle used for infantry. Most of those are already banned. In order to get one that's not banned, you need to go through an extensive background check that can take up to a year to complete, and find someone selling one. You won't find one for sale at a Walmart or sports/hunting store.
2. If by assault weapon you mean semi-automatic rifle, here are the following reasons why:
-Most gun deaths are caused by handguns.
-The .223 round (used in many semi-autos) is popular for hunting small game.
-Semi-auto rifles are fun to target practice with. Line up a bunch of big targets and shoot them one by one in quick succession! Sure, you could do that with a pistol, but rifles are more accurate.

Only 1% of the population is in the military but a large number of people like to play SEAL team 6 and just slap a credit card down and forego all the training and sacrifice

their precious con-media has fed them lies and fear that it would be the start of disarming all citizens so only criminals will have guns.
