What are these white chalky stains on my clothing?

I keep getting my black shirts out of the washer/dryer and more often than not, there will be a white chalky powdery stain on each side of the bottom of my shirts. Easy to wash off with a wet cloth but it's been getting so annoying. What are these stains and how can I stop this from happening?

    If you are using detergent powder, this is the cause. This is the reason I started using liquids.

    I get those too and do use liquid laundry detergent. Not every time though. I will be interested in seeing any answers you get.

    Use liquid laundry soap.
