This is the second bug we’ve noticed we moved into a new flat could it be from them living in the carpets or is it from the second hand sofa we got

Either way, those are definitely bed bugs! To check the sofa as the source, turn the sofa upside down and using a flash light look real close underneath along the seams and edges. If they are in the sofa, get it out of your flat immediately
No matter the source however, they are now in your new flat! Time to call the exterminator. Now if they are found to be from the sofa, it is on you to get rid of them since you brought them in. But if they were already in the flat, the landlord may have to foot the extermination costs.

Brown, wide oval body, little head. That looks like a bed bug. Bed bugs sound like a reason to get rid of a sofa.
