can the network of rigis and flexible conduit in a residential circuit serve as the ground, or is a third wire reqired?

    It depends on the Code. I believe that all new construction requires a separate ground wire inside the conduit depending on where you are located.

    no, the third wire is required.

    connections between conduit sections are not reliable enough.
