why doesn't eating snow quench thirst?
I have noticed that I am still thirsty after eating snow or ice cubes, and even after drinking water from melted ice. Is it just me or is something real going on? Has anyone experienced this?

1 AnswerMovies12 months agoHas anyone ever heard of lead used as a sheath on electric cable (romex)?
I was rewiring an old house and came upon what I thought was some type NM cable (the most common brand name is Romex). Actually, it has two conductors with old fabric-wrapped insulation that cracks and falls apart when I touch it. That whole setup is encased in lead where in modern NM cable there is a vinyl jacket. Yes, grey, metallic LEAD--I couldn't believe it. Anybody ever heard of this?
8 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)2 years agoIs is permitted to fish nonmetallic cable through walls?
I have flexible metal conduit that appears original to the (1948) house, containing fabric type conductors. the circuit to the outlet in question drops from the attic and doesn't appear to be stapled, just secured inside the box. I have tried pulling the wire out so I can replace it with THHN, but it won't come out. As I pull out the FMC, can I just pull in the Romex? I know NM cable is usually requires to be stapled within 6 inches of a box, but wouldn't the securing mechanism in those old boxes be acceptable? I have been looking through the NEC but haven't found this answer yet.
1 AnswerDo It Yourself (DIY)2 years agoIs it OK to change Wire gauge in the middle of a residential circuit?
My example is: Re-wiring a house--all loads in a bedroom about 40 ft from panel. 5-6 outlets, a ceiling fan/light, and a light fixture in a closet. Wire from panel would go to a box in attic, then down to each load (or string of outlets). Those are all 15 Amp loads, indicating a 15 Amp breaker and 14 gauge wire, but would I bring the whole thing from the panel on a 12 gauge(20 Amp breaker) wire In case several things are on at once? So--is it OK to connect several 14's to a 12 gauge, or OK to do the whole thing on 14, or all on 20. 14 gauge is a little less expensive and a lot easier to make connections with.

1 AnswerDodge2 years agoWhere is the best location to view this year's eclipse?
I have studied this quite a bit but can't find the answer to this detail--I have a place chosen near Mackay,Idaho that is exactly in the center of the path of totality. There, I will have my choice of being at the summit of one of the many 10,000+ foot mountains or down in a wide flat valley that stretches many miles. I wonder which location would give the most impressive view?

5 AnswersOther - United States6 years agoHas the Middle Fork of the Salmon river been affected by forest Fires?
I know this is a long shot, but I wonder if anyone knows if the Middle Fork area has been burned recently. Especially an area called Vanity Lakes. If you haven't actually been there in the last 1-2 years, please don't submit an answer. If you are able to name the Forest Service Guard station in that area, I will know that you know what you're talking about. I have looked on Google Earth and the Vanity area looks burned but I can't tell for sure. The person at the ranger district office did not have "boots on the ground" experience so could not say for sure. I was to Vanity summit in Fall 2013 but it was too snowy to go in. What about the toll road cabin, did it get burned?
