Y do some parents believe the only alternative to spanking is time out?
I’ve heard some parents say timeout doesn’t work so that’s why spanking is necessary but timeout isn’t the only alternative or way to discipline

Typically for a child young enough for either spanking OR time outs, other common methods (like loss of privileges) aren't terribly useful.
Still, parents who insist on using spanking as their major or only tool will find excuses to do so.
