How should I back out of going to homecoming with someone after staying yes?
Last year this guy asked me to hoco and I said no cause I barely knew him and I just wanted to go with my best friends and have a good time. He also asked me on a date and I said no cause I didn’t really want to date anyone at the time. They whole year I regretted it cause people would always say “oh he such a nice guy...” So this year he asked me again (under intense pressure from a friend who really wants to set us up) and I said yes. Now I’m starting to kind of want to reconsider. Here’s why.
1. I barely know the guy. After I rejected him last year we literally didn’t talk until he asked me again this year. I know nothing abt him besides the things that my pushy friend told me in efforts to set us up. I’m worried it’ll be awkward all night and we’ll have nothing to talk about.
2. He asked me over Instagram dm straight up like “will you go to homecoming with me?” Not to be bratty but come on, that’s kinda lame
3. I told him I wanted to wear a yellow dress and he was like “nah don’t wear yellow cause I don’t wanna wear a yellow tie” wtf...I do what I want
4. He asked if I bought my ticket yet and when I said no not yet he said “well you need to hurry up and take care of that before it’s too late”
I know it must be really hard to put yourself out there and ask someone to be your date, but I just want to have fun this year. It’s only been a day and I’m already overthinking this. Should I back out, and if so how do I politely do it without hurting any feelings?

Ask him first if he's shelled out any money on this event. If he's already bought tickets or arranged for special clothing it would be rude to back out. There's a limit to how "awkward" Homecoming can be given that your friends will be there and if it gets too weird you can always go hang out with other people. It's not like he asked you to go alone to some place where you're not going to know anyone.

You are overthinking this. Just go. It's one night. Besides, he may turn out to be a really nice person.
And wear your yellow dress. There's no law that says his tie has to match your dress.
