Do you live with the sight in one eye only?

My boyfriend has been blind in one eye for three years now and doctor told him it is basically "dying". He has a large cataract on it and she even recommended having it removed. Anyone out there had this done? thank you

Update:

Having the entire eye removed..not the cataract.

I am legally blind in one eye, and have been since well before I can remember.  Luckily my condition is nowhere near as severe as your boyfriends, as the eye looks normal and poses me no harm.  Luckily for him, we have great glass eyes these days that will help him get by looking normal.

Bull...cataracts are easily removed and sight restored. I know, I had two removed, one each eye, and now I see well without glasses.

My point, sure you can go blind, but you can also go not blind when the cataract is removed. And the operation is easy. Walk in, and an hour later walk out of the surgery room (with a patch over the eye). But then there is six weeks of eye drops of call kinds. Typically both eyes are done, but one at a time.

I have not. Before I opted for that I would get examined by at least two more eye surgeons.
