I try to buy sale items, use coupons, buy some generics, etc. But I like good quality, especially when it comes to fish and meat so I spend what it takes to get what I want. I like a good porterhouse steak, coho or sockeye salmon, lamb chops. I could eat a lot cheaper if I stuck to chicken and ground meat. I tend to cook only on weekends and eat leftovers the rest of the week both to save money and time. A lot of the leftovers go in stews and curies.

You don't have to, it's a free country, but doing so allows you to save more money for other things.

It makes sense to do that all the time with everything. No I don't have to but I sure like to so I have extra money for other things, like taking my grand babies to movies or treating them to ice cream on a whim, buying myself a new sweater or shoes when I need it instead of having to wait.
People who are rich are cheap as hell and generally watch every penny.

You are smart. I did that for many years. When you get older you may loosen up a bit, if you have the means.

I would only buy rice. And eat rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I believe rice does not freeze well. It messes up its texture. Adds water hydrogen and oxygen to the rice.
