What changes have you made to your diet and shopping since Quarantine?

I’ve been cooking vegetarian meals about 5 days a week for my parents, and 2 days meat and fish. It’s honestly cut my already cheap grocery bill down that it’d take 3 months to spend what some people used to spend before this. I’ve also been cooking every night unless I’m incapable of doing so due to time, which might be once a week

  • I'm eating a lot more at home because I'm not traveling 2 weeks a month like I was (I'm still not comfortable eating out in restaurants).  Oddly enough, the two things I miss are restaurant french fries (ordering takeaway means they lose their heat and crispness by the time you get home), and pho from one of my local places (you've got to eat it there; it doesn't travel worth a damn); one of the things we have here is GREAT pho.  I made more stews and chili during the winter months, and I've been grilling quite a bit (I always grill veg with my beef, poultry or seafood).  I've been eating more fresh fish (really been on a salmon and arctic char kick).

none. Being home more hasn't changed the way I cook at all.

I’m cooking a lot more at home.

I work 60 or so hours a weeks so eat a lot of premade salads, purchased breakfast burritos and other relatively healthy prepared foods.  I do love to cook but don’t always have time.  So I’ve gone from eating at least 2 meals prepared by someone else to preparing all my own food.  THE DISHES are KILLING me.

My shopping has changed drastically.  I normally pick up what I want to eat or cook almost daily.  I’m now shopping for at least a week or two at a time.  I’m actually liking that and that style of shopping will likely continue.

I really haven't changed much of anything. I am alone, so I don't need to worry about someone else's diet, so I just eat what I want, which is what I have been doing all along. About the only thing that the stores in my area were lacking was baking items, so other than that, my groceries pretty much stayed the same.

Being a professional chef, we rarely go out to eat anyway; I can make better at home. And the diet really hasn't changed in any significant way, other than we will often eat leftovers a day or two later.

But the Availability of some ingredients has made it a bit more challenging in varying meals one day to another. So we might have the same dish twice a month,  rather than every month or so.

I'm in the 17% fatality group, so I've been staying home. My wife has picked up take away a couple of times since mid-February and has gone to a grocery store where she buys pharmaceuticals a few times but mostly we are having groceries delivered. It's convenient and greatly limits our exposure. We try to cook recyclables or prep multi meal items, so our fridge is now full to overflowing. We do have an array of appliances that helps with meal variety.

I am retired, in La La Land.  I have 15 supermarkets within 3⅓ from my home.  Generally, each morning, I go "What do I want for dinner?"  Something I haven't had for at least 2 weeks.  Then I would go shopping to get *fresh* whatever.  Want Ratatouille? go to Sprouts for egg plant zucchini bell pepper mushroom and french bread.  Want burrito? go Gonzalez Northgate for the grande tortillas.  Looking at something else, notice the bell peppers are big and square and stuffable, go to Ralphs to get the Italian Sausage.  Having FUN.

Now?  Wife doesn't want me out, she shops about once a week.  I want New York Steaks, need 12 ounce Russet Potatoes.  She gets huge full pounder.  She doesn't have the experience I have...,  Worse, she cannot go from store to store to store to pick the cheap/best; which means overpriced produce.

Which means overpriced and waste -- my food costs has skyrocketed.

We haven't bothered with any takeaways. (Restaurants are supposed to be opening here next week, fingers crossed), Tried to eat healthily but only had frozen sea food as opposed to fresh. Otherwise not much change in diet. No great change in shopping abilities except having to queue now and again.

I've only had one take out since shut down---I've been cooking every night--I've been trying to cut down on carbs some more--and I've been panic shopping online--trying to fix any anxiety that I have about anything! And that includes food products- I think the postal service hates me.
