What is a good way to meet people in university?
I am a student at Ryerson still living at home. Since Ryerson is more of a commuters school I haven’t really met anyone that I have gotten particularly close with. Some people have said join clubs but I find most of them uninteresting and a pathetic forced attempt at trying to meet people. Any tips anyone??

Most clubs are about sharing a common interest, not a "pathetic, forced attempt at meeting people". If that's your attitude, people aren't going to want to meet YOU. Why should they bother with someone who sneers at their clubs and their interests?
So, I suggest that you make an effort to undergo an attitude change and then figure out something that really does interest you. You can look for like-minded people who may already have founded a club dedicated to that activity, or you can found a club of your own and advertise for other members in the campus newspaper or online.
You don't sound like the type, but many universities sponsor various volunteer groups. You could look into that.

Spend more time on campus to study, etc. Eat lunch in student cafeteria or whatever the school has. There are usually a variety of clubs, student organizations, volunteer opportunities, etc. What are your interests? If you don't ski, of course the ski club is irrelevant. So what are your interests? Can you commit to helping others in some way & volunteer somewhere to do something? And be polite, friendly to classmates - say hi, etc.
