I'm working on a DIY arts & crafts project & want to incorporate an electric motor. does the coil need to be from a specific metal such as copper, or can any wire even steel be used?

WIRE HAS INSULATION  JACKET ON IT CAN BE USED. IN THE OLD DAY, COPPER WIRE COVER WITH SILK SLEEVE WAS USED LONG BEFORE THE PLASTIC JACKET WAS INVENT.

NOWADAYS, STANDARD ENAMEL COATED WIRE IS USED !

they use copper because it's easily bent to fit the forms.   Doubt steel would bend that well without cracking ......
