What's the major General Associate's of Arts?

I'm attending college this fall and is going to be my third semester. My Academic Program is General Studies and my major is General Associate's of Arts.

I'm not sure what career I want yet, but I don't really know what's going to happen after I finish my credits. I don't understand what's going to happen next. I need help on this.

A "general AA" is basically an array of first and second year general education classes a person would take before declaring a major and earning a bachelor's degree.  It would probably include  a breadth of classes in math, English, social scientists, lab science, and maybe foreign language.  It is unlikely a student getting the degree would be taking classes in business or in a specialized certification program like digital design or nursing.

A general studies AA does not prepare someone for any job.  It covers the foundation courses required to transfer to a university and earn a BA or BS degree.

So, you have to start by deciding whether or not you plan to transfer to a university to continue your education. If you do, then you want to focus on figuring out what major you will select and meeting the transfer requirements.  If you are NOT planning to earn a BA/BS degree, then you might want to consider what job you want when you graduate.

An AA or AS degree isn't really enough to get a career/professional white-collar job because you haven't taken the upper division classes that provide that necessary knowledge. If you only want to complete and AA or AS, you really need to think about what job you want and what specific skills you need in order to meet the requirements of that job.

To obtain a 4 year college degree, one must first complete a number of General Education (GenEd) courses during their first 2 years.  One also usually takes a few introductory courses in their major during that time.

The next 2 years in college consists of upper division courses in the student's major, plus a few electives.

Your Associates degree (in General Studies) basically means you will have completed your GenEds.  You can then finish your final 2 years.  If you are at community college now, you will have to transfer to a 4 year college to complete your degree.

A general AA does not prepare you for any particular job. When you complete that program, you should have completed the general education requirements for a bachelor's degree and your classes should transfer to a 4-year school and count toward a bachelor's degree.
