Do newer wifi cards (ac,ax) only work on latest laptops or any laptop?

    any laptop.  they are backward compatible.  Of course, the ac or ax wifi does not improve throughput that is throttled for some other reason

    Related to David's answer (👍+1) : 

    I had to flash a modified BIOS (with no whitelist) on my wife's Lenovo X121e (2012) and mine for the wifi ac cards to work.Unfortunately, it looks like the dedicated BIOS modification website is down.https://www.bios-mods.com/

    Not any laptop, older laptops and some laptops that have a wifi card whitelist coded into the BIOS will only accept certain wifi cards.

    Not any laptop.  My Win95 and Win98SE and WinXP and Vista laptops probably will not have any drivers for those newer cards.
