Can I get back unemployment during Covid?

I didn't think I was applicable for unemployment from my part time job when Covid started (I'm only 17 years old and I wasn't sure if I worked enough hours to get any money), so I didn't file for it. However, now I'm learning that my coworkers who are only 18 and don't live by themselves have gotten as much as $5,000, even though our restaurant was only closed for about a month and a half. I used to work 20 hours/wk, and my coworkers worked similar hours. Can I file now and get the money I might have been able to collect if I filed mid-March?

Update:

BTW I'm from NY state.

17 yr olds don't qualify for unemployment.  18 is the minimum age.

You can definitely late file, and you can probably get a back-dated benefits, especially since the system was so clogged up back in the spring.

But if you have already been called back to work, and 1. are either actually working or 2. refused the call-back, you're probably not going to get any benefits.

If you are back at work, then you are no longer eligible to get what you (potentially) missed.

Unemployment is based on what you earned over a 1 year period, not what you were earning at the time of the hours reduction.

no u can not. u get money from the date u apply. also people with part time jobs never get full unemployment. and u should be working longer than 9 months and collect pay slips for 10 months or more

In Canada you have to work for a minimum of one year before you can get unemployment (EI) benefits. Mid March was when all new benefits were switched to the $2000 per month covid payments. You can't double dip and get both unemployment + covid benefits.
