How can I get over my disappointment in my daughter?

She's 13. She sent a vile text message to a girl whose mother saw it and told us about it. It was so mean and disgusting I was shocked. We took our daughter's phone away. She says she's sorry but I think she's just sorry she got caught. I'm so disappointed in her I don't even want to be in the same room with her. I don't want to damage our relationship but I don't know how to move past this. It's been a week since it happened and I feel stuck in this funk. I know how girls are at this age but now I feel like I don't even know my daughter, who I thought was kind. How do I move past this?

You never give her that phone back...get a limited phone and plan that she can only use to talk on, no text/data coverage. Only to be used in a emergency. Try tracfone.

You should have a conversation with her about respecting other kids. Make sure she understands that being a bully is just obnoxious and not cool. Teenagers can be very mean, and they often behave very differently around other kids than around family. Try not to get too upset, because you need to keep a clear head when speaking to her about this. Your words need to be cool and collected. Your anger won’t help the situation.

Tell her how you feel just as you have outlined above.
