How do i fill in a car logbook?

i am selling my car to a local garage do i fill in section 4 of the log book which says selling transferring or part exchanging this vehicle to a motor trader if so does the vat number have to be given or it doesnt also the other thing is when i give the logbook which part do i send off to the dvla and which part does he keep like does he have to keep the main log book with my name and address on it and i just take the yellow slip and tear it off and send it to dvla im new to this dont know much about the logbook just dont want anything dodgey to happen if log book is on my name. if you guys know about this let me know thanks.

    The dealer completes the yellow part, and gives it to you to send to DVLA (although you can now inform the DVLA online instead of by post, in which case you keep the yellow slip as a backup until the DVLA confirms you are no longer the registered keeper). The rest of the V5c stays with the car until it is sold to a new keeper, at which point the dealer at that time will give the new keeper the green part and will send the rest back to DVLA (or shred it if they inform the DVLA online).

    Hundreds of V5cs pass through dealers in this way every day, and nothing dodgy happens.

    Take the V5C to the trader as there as special circumstances for them. This avoids them appearing as an additional owner which devalues the car.
