Why would a guy ask you to close your eyes before kissing you?
We were in close proximity and the tension was high, he kept staring at my eyes then lips and repeated this and his voice went all soft. He then asked me to close my eyes. Opinion? Do guys normally do this before kissing?

This one does. The sooner you understand that "normal" isn't the way you want to measure something like this, the better. He sounds like he's in touch with his feelings, knows what he wants and is good at communicating. Why wouldn't you want to go with that, learn from it and do the same?
There are people who find it exciting to kiss with eyes open. There are people who find it exciting to kiss with eyes closed. There are people who like kissing tenderly and people who like kissing forcefully. Instead of trying to figure out what's normal for other people, spend your time and energy figuring out what's best for you, hon.
