Who had the right of way here?

I got gas at Sam's club.  When I exited my fuel pump I was perfectly in line with the exit lane.  But as I was exiting there was a pickup truck coming from the other side of the island and was actually a little farther away from the exit than myself when we made eye contact.  Also,  it'd be easier for him to exit if he swung wide to come to the stop sign at a 90 degree angle,  as I am with the green arrow.  When I went ahead and excited,  he called me an airhead and acted like he wanted to fight.  Wth? It would've been easiest for him to exit if I was out of the way.  Why do you think he was upset,  he apparently seems to think he had the right of way,  which really,  there wasn't one in this situation.  I think?
