Has anyone ever darkened a caramel colored leather boot?

I received a brand new pair of Frye boots in the caramel marble color. They are gorgeous, but I really want a darker more chocolate color. I’ve heard Mink Oil will darken and condition leather, but I’ve also seen videos using black show polish. Has anyone done this? I’ve mink oiled my cowboy boots for years, but I’m not sure they will darken that much with Mink Oil. I love the boots and I do not want to ruin them OMG. Thank you for any help.
