Is a 3.1 GPA in a biology major bad?
Hi,
I'm a second semester junior majoring in biology. My GPA is currently about 3.1, and my parents seem to think that that's just a horrible GPA, although I'm proud of it, considering I've taken some hard courses. Is a 3.1 GPA good?
Of course, I still have time to raise it.

It's good - that's right at a B average, meaning most of your course grades have probably been Bs, with some higher and some lower. Whether it's "good enough" is what's important. It depends on what you want to do with it. Most graduate programs require at least a 3.0 to apply, but some require (or at least expect) higher than that. You will need a considerably higher GPA if you are considering something like medical school. But you can compensate for a lower GPA with higher standardized test scores and additional experiences (research, volunteer work, shadowing, etc. - again, depending on what you want to do).

It is average. Nothing that great. if you plan on going for your Masters degree you need to get that up.

Yes, that is?good GPA for an undergraduate student.
A perfect GPA would be 4.00000.
WHY do so many people think a GPA in of 3.0000 or higher is bad. Honors does NOT mean you are perfect.

When I was in elementary school I got a couple of 'H's on my report card. My folks were wild about that because where they came from the lowest mark you could get was an 'F' and I was obviously way below that. They did not know that at the school that I attended that 'H' stood for 'Honours', that is better than an 'A'
So to judge your 3.1, they and we have to know what a perfect grade would be.
