What power does the word of God have to change people who have followed a sad course?

Update:

Hope that Jehovah's Witnesses answer this question because I have an amazing story to share about one in that faith that a humble friend in the past heard at a Bible Study group.

Update 2:

This is complicated because I am Catholic but I have friends of all faiths who believe in the Loving power of Jesus.   She told me the story was so amazing almost everyone at the Bible study was crying.  After a Witness answers this will be happy to share it because would like to find out if it is true.

Update 3:

Please would one of Jehovah's Witnesses share a story of how someone was changed from studying the Bible and then will share story heard about because it is an incredible story of how a reformed prisoner who was dangerous changed after studying about the hope in the Bible you study.

Update 4:

This is the story a friend was told:

Once a Japanese prisoner who had committed heinous crimes was put in solitary confinement and he was scheduled to be executed. Jehovah's Witnesses studied with him and he changed so much the prison let him out for one day to get baptized. A prison guard went with him to an assembly so he could baptized and tell Jehovah he was sorry.

Update 5:

When the day for his execution came the one who studied with him was there for Moral support. The one who studied with him asked him how he was doing and he said he had accepted he had to pay for his crimes and was confident that his God would bless him for being faithful. I am so glad that Jehovah's Witnesses study people in prison so they can get help if they have good heart conditions and are sorry for their crimes.

Update 6:

Jenny used to send me pictures from Australia and wish could find her because there is this sweet guy who needs a friend who is stuck inside in a car facility and he is discouraged.  He is a friend of mine on face book.  As cute as Jenny is bet he would fall in love with her. Maybe she will follow me online and I can play matchmaker.  BTW once made battle star page but now thinking more peaceable.

WHY SHOULD WE WORSHIP GOD? The true God is the Creator of all things. He had no beginning and will never have an end. ( Psalm 90:2) he is the Source of the good news found in the Bible. ( 1 Timothy 1:11) Since God gave us life, we should worship only him. Read Revelation 4:11.  DOSE JEHOVAH CARE ABOUT US? Dose widespread mean that Jehovah is a God who dose not care about us? Some people claim that he makes us suffer to test us, but this is not true. Read James 1:13.  God has granted man the dignity of free will. Do we not appreciate our freedom to choose to serve God? ( Joshua 24;15) But many choose to do bad things to others, so suffering abounds. It saddens Jehovah to see such injustice. Read Genesis 6:5,6. Jehovah is a God who cares about us He wants us to enjoy life. Soon he will eliminate suffering and those who cause it.  Meanwhile, he has good reason to allow suffering for a limited time.  For more information JW.ORG

God has the power to guide us and heal us. Reading the Word of God can help to put us in contact with Him.

The Holy Scriptures can influence a person to make changes in their life to benefit themselves and please their Creator. They only need the desire to do so and the humility to ask for God’ help.

Like the writings of this one but is sad to know he said this:

Properly read, the Bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived.”

    ― Isaac Asimov

The Bible is true and was written the way it is so preachers could use it to help others respect the need for principles to live by.

Some accounts do not contain all details so ministers can tailor them around sermons to motivate others to have better behaviors.

There's no reason to doubt that account of the Japanese prisoner. Many people have changed after studying with the JWs. My father-in-law studied with a family; both parents were deaf and dumb and their children learned sign language. My f-in-l did too, along with getting them to read Watchtower Society literature, and they became JWs. The husband stopped beating his wife. Literally! Their marriage was saved as a result. The couple were so grateful and I met them on one occasion, in the 1970s when they visited my f-in-l.

But the question is, was it the power of the word of God (the Bible) that helped that family change for the better, or was it something else? After all, people all over the world have changed for the better by listening to others, even to irreligious people, who take time to care for them and point them to a better way of life. You could find testimonies of such good change with Mormons, Catholics, Protestants, Brethren, Quakers and so on. Prison chaplains have loads of accounts of prisoners being transformed, but there are no JW prison chaplains.

It is the power of the Holy Spirit that convicts sinners of their sin, so that they repent before God and trust only in what Jesus did to save them. That transforms them and they begin to learn the way to live as a follower of Jesus who said that in John 16:5-15 & 14:6-27. But the JWs teach their students that they cannot hope to have the Holy Spirit in them, as believers; that only their leaders and a few thousand other JWs have 'holy spirit' anointing. The millions of other JWs must accept everything their leaders teach them and tell them to do, and hopefully that will get them through Armageddon. That is why they only study their leader's literature with students, which interprets the Bible for them. At the end of the day, their students do not receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, so that cannot be the power that changes them.

Romans 8 tells us that if we do not have the Spirit of Christ, we do not belong to Him. Who, then, do 99.9% of JWs belong to? What power rules them if it isn't the power of the Holy Spirit?
