Isn't this whole "lock down the opposition for their violence" right out of Hitler's playbook?

Percentage of participants is very close.  Kudos to Democrats on learning from history.

    The difference is that the response to the Reichstag fire involved ending German democracy.  The response to the Capitol insurrection is about preserving democracy.  There's been absolutely no restrictions on the democratic rights of Republicans, or anyone else.  Nor has there been any contemplation of doing such a thing.  Instead there have been arrests of people directly involved in violence, calls for the disavowal of violence, and an insistence that we rededicate ourselves to democracy and the use of democratic elections to resolve our disputes.  It's basically the exact opposite of the Reichstag fire response.

    The alternative, of course, is to abandon our democracy.  If we do nothing then we are saying that it's perfectly legitimate for people who lose an election to try and violently overthrow the government and install their preferred candidate as dictator.  That's the actual Reichstag fire analogy: the effort to dismantle democracy through violence.

    Yes sounds like Republicans got it from there!

    Like the Nazis, Republicans blamed the storming of the Capitol on their political rallies even though they're the ones who did it!

    Their explanation was;

    "Antifa and BLM infiltrated the peaceful protests and incited the riot!"

    Maybe...from what I have read his playbook was to accuse everyone who disagreed with him of being communist and he locked down the media...

    In the early 1930s the Nazi party would send operatives across the Weimar Republic to incite violence. Then, those Nazis would point to the violence as evidence that the Weimar Republic was unable to protect its citizens. This propaganda is what allowed Hitler to rise to power.

    I think people should remember this right about now, although probably for a different reason than you think.
