when a person gives a long answer to a short question does that make you think they're trying to defend an undefensible position .?

    No,They are just trying to explain.

    I don't think so. Certainly not all the time. It can take more than a few words to communicate a complex idea.

    No, because sometimes questions and answers are just plane black and white.
