Damage to body from bench press technique?

Hey everyone. This is about bench pressing form and its cons. I normally  bench press in 8 sets of 20 decreasing the amount each set.  In order to maximize output i allow the bench press to bounce off my chest as i arch my lower back to push the weight during reps late in the set. Would this cause structural damage to the sternum or rib cage by doing this and has anyone experienced complications from allowing weight to bounce off of their chests?

Repeatedly striking a part of your body with a load can cause damage, yes.  The occasional bump off of the chest may happen with a heavy weight or tired muscles, but it is bad form, and repeated impacts could crack something.  Arching your back while bench pressing is also poor form, your core muscles should remain tight throughout a set, similar to proper push up form.

Your set and rep scheme makes no sense for any goal I can think of.

My cousin used to bench press exactly as you describe.  He ended up damaging both his thoracic nerve and spinal cord.  Unfortunately, these injuries deteriorated over time and he's now in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
