what is going on with my laptop charger?
Its only a year old and sometimes it charges and sometimes not. Some times it starts charging on its own if I leave it alone, or if I play with it and move it around. it seems to go back and forth charging then not charging. Or if i move it either starts charging again or it stops if it was charging
What causes this and how can i fix it?

these days a laptop psu will have a Central Pin in the Plug you push into the laptop. This is used to communicate to the bios. The bios can then determine if a PSU is connected or not and whther its an original or not. You may have broken that wire which cannot be repaired, or the Power Jack Socket which you push the plug into has been damaged and needs a replacement. You can buy a new power jack socket for a few bucks, but the process of replacing it might render the laptop useless. Some laptops just arent made to be taken apart.

'play with it and move it around' -- you have a cracked wire somewhere that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. solution -- replace the thing. off brands are, imho and experience, just as good as name brands as long as designed for the same model

It sounds like a dodgy or loose wire in the charger, or a problem with the connection
