He is a cutter. he says that he isn't trying to harm himself. I trust him, but it really hurts me to watch him do this. He says it's just a means of release, but his family thinks otherwise. What do I say to him?

Cutting is not a vice, it's self-harm regardless of what he says his reasons are. He needs therapy.

Tell him he needs to get some help otherwise you are out of there. Clearly that is an unhealthy way to deal with "stress"
