What are some good classic family movies to watch?

I am looking for recommendations of old family movies that have a happy ending. The older the better. I don't mind if they are in black and white. They also don't have to be animated.

Watching old movies with our kids was a favorite when they were the right ages. Let's see, what did they like? It seems like we watched a whole lot of Disney; the early movies intended for kids and families were something they did very well, although cartoons were what they did best.

    Mary Poppins

    Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

    Flubber

    The Apple Dumpling Gang

    Old Yeller

    Big Red

The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T

    Tom Thumb

    The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes

    The Absent-Minded Professor

    The Sound of Music

    Bambi

    Snow White

    Lady and the Tramp

    Cinderella

    Sleeping Beauty

    Beauty and the Beast

    The Black Stallion

    The Muppet Movie

While we often went back to the 1940s for movies to watch together, most of the ones before the late1950s--that would be most of the black and white ones--did not "speak to them." So while they've seen Little Women, Friendly Persuasion, Sergeant York, and others, the only one they really liked was Some Like It Hot.

Watch Great Expectations. The original one with John Mills and Jean Simmons. It's one of my favourites.
