Friend asked for advance on stimulus check?

My friend asked if I could lend him $1400 and he would repay me when he got his covid stimulus check since he really needs money now. I am cautious since there were many issues last time with people not getting their money on time or at all. He assures me that we're all getting money and that the president just has to sign the bill but I still don't know.

If you were me, would you lend your friend the money or tell them to wait for the stimulus payment?

We're not "all" getting money.  For example, anyone with income over $80,000 a year doesn't get one.

"Loan" him $20 and you'll never see him again, and it will be the best money you ever spent.

We are NOT "ALL getting money" this time either. The upper limit on income is now lower.

I'm not saying your friend is deliberately lying, Joey, but I smell drugs.

Do what you want, but get it in writing.

What is the past relationship with this friend? How much has the virus disrupted his life?  There are no guarantees, the old saying about not counting your chickens before they hatch applies.

How long has this good friend, been your good friend?

All these sort of things come into play, including why does he need it so badly now?

Get it in writing that he is going to repay you, with no mention of him getting his check, just that he will repay you. That way if he tries to play stupid when no check comes, you can still take him to small claims.

I personally wouldn't loan anyone such an amount. A more reasonable figure perhaps

depending on how reliable the friend is and what they'll be spending the money on.

I'm not going to speak for you about people I've never met. You have a screw loose asking advice f/ people on YA about what to do w/ your money.

I'm speaking from experience here... Never lend a friend money, for any reason, unless you're OK with losing that friendship.  If you give a friend money, call it a "gift" and not a loan.  Whether or not your friend is getting a stimulus check is beside the point, he still may default on the loan.

I would not lend any money, unless I trusted that friend like my own brother.

No. Dont do it. Lend 300 nothing more. It's not official yet.
