why are democrats so selfish as to think that wealth should be punished with higher taxes when taxes should be the same percentage?

Come back with your flat-tax when every billionnaire has worked at least one tenth as much for every dollar as people on minimumwage do

Why should poor people pay the same amount of taxes as the rich? The rich should pay more takes, because they have more money than the poor.

The same percentage would result in the poor family cutting back on essentials and the rich family cutting back on luxuries. Hardly an equitable way to raise money.

I fail to understand why those who say "The ones who get the most should not help the most". 

When only some get higher breaks amid loopholes it is time to fix the taxation system. 

Because you don't need all that money to live, so I'm gonna take it from you and give it to poor people.

Punishment? The richest would feel nothing.  They're too rich. Practicality simply eludes you.
