Why did catholics teach people Peter was the rock Jesus' Church is built upon (I Cor 3:11) VS "revelation" from The Rock (Matt 16:17-18)?

The Apostle wasn't originally named Peter. His name was Simon. Jesus said to Simon, "I say unto you that you are Rock, and upon this Rock I will build my Church". Is there some way He could have made this clearer for you?

The Catholic Church is entirely responsible for the composition of the Bible, which books are included, as well as the breakup of the chapters and verses. Protestants have removed some books of the Bible because some of the verses were inconsistent with their theology. Martin Luther was a prime offender in this regard, removing Tobit, Judith, 1 and 2 Maccabees, Wisdom, Sirach and Baruch. He also made an effort to remove James and Revelations, but this was rejected by his followers and those two books were kept. Catholics are often accused of "adding" the books, but despite this common belief, it is false. Older, pre-Protestant, Catholic translations of the Bible include them.

It's abundantly clear that you have no idea what the Catholic Church teaches, or why. 

Because they wanted to make it look like they had authority to continue the Christian church.

That bothers you??  yet the Easter bunny and Sun worship in December saying that is Jesus birthday.  Knowing it is the birthday of the Sun.  St Pattrices was a monster who never did drive out the snakes.  St. Valentine never happened.  It was from pagan sex worship.  Hell is the grave and we all go there.  They discount that God told Adam "for dust you are and to dust you will return"  So that is a lie.  Pretty much everything in that religion is not true.

The 'Big Rock,' (Biblical Greek: πέτρα 'petra'), Jesus refers to in Matthew 16:18 is the foundation of the Church, which Ephesians 2:20 describes:

"God’s household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone." (Ephesians 2:20).

Simon's nickname 'Peter' comes directly from Biblical Greek πέτρα 'petra' meaning, 'little rock.' 

Jesus was describing one of the 'little rocks' making up the 'Big Rock.' 

However, Simon Peter was clearly the first ἐπόπτης 'epóptēs' (Biblical Greek: 'overseer'), who was appointed to be the actual member of the Apostles who spun the urn containing the votes cast when casting lots under divine inspiration, for example, when deciding whom the Lord chose to replace Judas Iscariot. 

This is actually the forgotten origin of the terms 'Pope' and 'Holy See.' Calling him the first 'Pope' is perfectly appropriate. He is NOT, however, the sole foundation of the Holy Church, nor was this Christ's intent in making His statement in Matthew 16:18. 

The "rock" refers to the bedrock truth of Peter's confession, "Thou are the Christ, the Son of the Living God."  The Greek word for "rock" is Petra (huge boulder-like)  The Greek word "Petros" (pebble) refers to Peter.  Matthew 16:16-18.

The Catholic Church is the only one founded by Christ and protected by the Holy Spirit. Just because you choose to be in rebellion and to invent your own doctrine does not change that.

So you are questioning the Bible, are you.  That's can't be accepted by the church...
