Lawnmower dead?

Question

We cut an area of the yard at someone else's home. Just under the surface of the grass (not the ground) was an electrical wire. Thin and bent like say a coat hanger. It was not a live wire but it got tangled in the blade and the mower cut off. This mower does fail to restart if it is turned off and the engine is hot. Needless to say it did not restart. I tried it an hour later and it tries to turn over but did not start. So the engine is not locked (?). What other possible non start issues could occur do to the wire incident? Thanks.

Check the blade cavity for any obstruction.  Spray starting fluid on the carb and try to start.  Mower starts and dies, check the carb.  Mower does not start, check for spark.  If spark is good, check timing.  Good luck.

Did you remove the wire from the blade shaft?

Give it a shot of starter fluid.

Sounds like the flywheel timing key is sheared. About a 50cent part, but you have to remove the flywheel on top of the engine to replace it. I've done it dozens of times over the years. Find a youtube video to help you. 
Assuming you have regular push mower with vertical shaft engine.
