I am a guy like me. She said that because we are so close on an emotional level, we think the same way, we are super good friends. Usually this is a clear indicator that I'm in the friendzone, but I feel like she just doesn't want to make it awkward when she said that. Thoughts? Would it hurt to at least try?

Stick with it, be a good friend, companion and confidante. If her comment was an honest one, she'll eventually wake up and recognize your qualities. If not, she's too superficial & ignorant to bother with anyway.
