Tips on getting a restraining order?

I'm of adult age and was abused by my father mentally and physically to the point I think I need to take legal action. He keeps calling and showing up at my residence when asked not to. I know I need to document these things but where do you start? Thank you

Buy a cheap diary and document everything in it, it is primary evidence that can be used... you can either write a cease and desist letter  or get a lawyer to write one, telling him to stop contacting you, stop coming to your home, that might be enough to stop him, if not report him to the police and they will speak to him warning him you will take further legal action should he continue...

Keep a diary, then go to the police. You need a list of dates and times.

Just call a lawyer, or maybe your county courthouse for direction.  I think lawyers don't charge for consultations.
