What happens when a person reaches the age of consent in their state?

Some states it’s 16 others it’s 17 or 18 but what does the law age of consent means?

    When a person is above the age of consent, it means that an adult can have sex with them and it wouldn’t be a crime.

    They get to have sex with adults. Vice versa.

    They get a little certificate in the mail and a card to carry in their wallet that says “I’m legal”.
