This is a particularly fallacious straw man argument because no one is suggesting we wear them forever. The suggestion is that we keep wearing them for a while until we achieve herd immunity. That's expected to happen probably sometime this year. Furthermore, you're angst over this, the idea that we are wearing masks forever is particularly specious because many conservatives have refused to wear masks at all. It's not like they've given masks a fair chance and warned them happily for a long time. They've booked at the idea of wearing masks almost from the beginning. So your argument really doesn't hold any water
