what would you have done in this incident that happened to me ages ago?

i'm a white male in my 40s from britain and about 7 years ago i was walking along the street near where i live, and i crossed the street at the traffic lights.....and when i looked at the traffic lights there was this car waiting to go, the car was full of black men who were looking at me in a very threatening way......i felt very intimidated but i glanced away.....but i felt picked on and annoyed that that happened to me, i felt singled out....but there was no way i could take on a car full of aggressive black men...

how should i have handled that incident? how should i have reacted to it?
