Why are Indians not considered asian in America?

Hatred of various groups comes in waves. A year ago, it was Mexicans and Hondurans who were the most hated. Right now, some idiots in the US are blaming all people of Chinese descent for COVID, and they can't tell the difference between the Chinese, the Japanese, the Koreans, and others from east Asia. Yes, most people do not include Indians when they say Asians, but at this point, it's to your advantage that you don't get mistaken for being Chinese. 

BTW- I know it's annoying to be portrayed inaccurately in movies. But that's a long way from having laws saying you can't go to most schools, or eat in most restaurants, or having a government trying to build a wall to keep you out. Don't try to equate the level of discrimination against you. If you want to protest somewhere, go to Singapore, where Indians are hired only to do manual labor. 

East Asian is Asian, West Asian is something else. 

Native Americans being the first one here, they got title to the land. Indian is a misnomer.

It's good that Indians have not made the news for being attacked on the street, no? I can't imagine you'd want that. 

Christopher Columbus called the American natives 'Indians' because he wrongly thought he was in India.
