  • How much force?

If I suspend a taut steel cable between two poles placed 50 feet apart and suspend a 40 pound weight in the center of the cable, how much force is exerted on each pole by the cable. Assume the cable has no weight, the poles don't bend, and cable is exerting about 75 pounds of force due to it starting tension.

  • What is the best method for posting photos with questions on Yahoo Answers?

I would like to recommend a method for other Posters with questions, to post photos of the item they are trying to repair. The key requirements would be one that is ad free, simple, and will keep them available indefinitely. I see many posts referring to photos that are no longer available, and that is no good. A service that would accept High Res photos, and allow others to zoom in would be good also. Thanks

  • What type of electric motor is this? GE Model 27468?

I have an old (circa 1920) electric motor 1/4 HP 110 volts 60 cycles, possibly off a Maytag washer.

It has slip rings and brushes. Not commutators. What type of motor is this? It is not a repulsion-induction or a series wound universal ac/dc motor.

  • Engineering Stress on utility pole from weight on line?

I have a wooden 4"x4" pole that is 13' above ground to the attachment point of a service wire, and the wire is 60' long to the attachment point on the utility company's pole. Assuming the wire is more or less level, and weighs about .25 lb/foot, how much force is being applied to the 4"x4" pole at the attachment point? If a 50 lb. limb falls 20 feet onto the line 10 feet from the attachment point and catches on the line, how much is the force at the attachment point. What size pole would be necessary (pine) for it not to fail under these conditions? I don't know if I have included enough info to calculate this, but I am just trying to get a general idea of how this works.

I have a large Kabar single blade pocket knife with damaged celluloid handles. I am looking for an inexpensive replacement with another material in the $40-$60 range. I don't need a master knifemaker just someone who does good work. Must have proof of abilities, photos, etc. SW Mo. area

  • ATT CINGULAR RAZR V3 PHONE DIFFERENCES?

I would like to replace my old one with one from eBay, and need to know why there are so may models for att. I need the best photos and web browsing. I have heard some foreign made ones won't work or can't get tech support for them. What do I need to look for and what do I need to avoid.

  • What are the differences between NiMh and NiCd batteries?

Dewalt cordless tool batteries are NiCd, or now, Lithium ion. Some companies make NiMh battery replacements that seem to work as well or even better than the NiCd's in my tools. Why doesn't DeWalt make NiMh replacements? I asked them to no avail. NiMh batteries can stand many more charging cycles from what I understand and are used in walkie talkies and cameras. Why not power tools?

  • COUNTER OPENING FOR RANGE/OVEN CABINET

Are all drop-in electric range/ovens made for the same size openings? If I buy a used 4 burner range with single oven will it fit where the old one was in the counter/cabinet? I am not worried about the electric, just the cabinet. Thanks in advance for your help.
