  • Are people particularly rude at this time of year?

I regard myself as a kind person and go out of my way, running my business, to be helpful to people. Often people write to me or thank me for what I have done. Complaints come once in a blue moon and I sort them out if justified. But yesterday I had 2 people write me nasty emails with no justification whatsoever, one slam the phone down when I couldn't supply what she was asking for (something beyond my scope) and a customer storming out of the shop when she saw there was no lift to the upper floor and she couldn't get here pushchair up there (even though the child was walking and could have got out and I also volunteered to look after him while she went up - I do this all the time). I'm not really used to this and I have to confess it did upset me.

Is it the time of year? Are people too worried about money or too busy to be polite?

  • What to do about daughter whose failure at PE is making her very unhappy?

My daughter is 9. She is very very bad at sports and she dreads going to school on PE days. Despite best attempts, I don't think she will ever be able to do basic things like forward rolls, handstands, headstands, cartwheels, climb on climbing frames etc. Although she was very badly behind other children in swimming she is now begining to catch up and I think she could be quite good at that; she also has no problems with co-ordination in dancing although she will never make a dancer.

She walked at 16 months and had difficulty going down stairs one foot at a time until she was about 5 or 6.

Where is the dividing line between being bad at sports or having a physical disability? Could she have some undiagnosed disability? What should I do? She is so unhappy as it is affecting her friendships when she can't play with the others in the playground because she can't physically manage their games? I feel so sorry for her.

Can anyone give me some advice?

  • How can I avoid chargebacks through fraudulent use of credit cards online?

Yes I know all about Paypal seller protection scheme but if not covered by the scheme because the buyer has not confirmed an address, what other steps can I take? I have recently suffered a chargeback through the fraudulent use of a credit card. The fact that I could prove delivery etc was irrelevant. I have started checking whether people are listed on the electoral roll, phoning them etc but what else can I do to protect myself?

  • Would you steal it?

If you were in a shop and saw an item you really liked and wanted (a luxury item with a value of about $60, not something which is a necessity) and you could easily put it in your bag in the knowledge that you would definitely not be caught, would you take it and why?

If your answer is "it depends on the circumstances" what would those circumstances be?

  • Special Clearance of Cheques in UK?

I always thought you could pay a fee and get a cheque specially cleared in 3 days or so so that you knew it wasn't going to bounce weeks later.

When I went to my bank with a cheque to do this today they saud this doesn't exist.

Is this true? I'm sure I have done it before. Or does it only relate to business accounts?

  • When do children grow out of toys?

My daughter has so many toys and plays with all of them. At what age will she lose interest in them so I can redesign her bedroom without having to take the large amount of storage room for toys into account? We live in a small flat so space is critical!

  • To all shoppers - would you buy clothes now or wait till the sale?

Just trying to work out whether I should go into sale now in my fashion business or wait awhile.

Are all you shoppers holding off purchasing summer clothes until the sale starts or are you still shopping at regular prices? When do you expect the sales are going to start both in stores and on-line? Or have they started already where you are?

  • Hayfever remedies for children?

My daughter has really bad hayfever this week (she is 8). Can anyone recommend what works best to alleviate the symptoms? It probably needs to come as a syrup or a chewy sweet rather than tablet form.

  • Sugar Addiction - how long to conquer it?

I decided 3 days ago I have been eating too many sweet things - I have such a sweet tooth - and have put on weight as a result - and have to take some action. I am sure sugar is very addictive so stopped eating it 3 days ago. Today I am having such bad cravings for cakes and things. When will these cravings subside? I am staying at home where there is no temptation eating apples and bananas instead.

  • How to tactfully ask a fellow parent to deal with headlice?

My daughter has been free of headlice for 5 years and having experienced them once, I always check her hair as soon as she scratches her head. Yesterday I checked and found headlice. I asked her if she knew of anyone else in the class who had them and she said there is a girl in the class on whom the other children have actually seen the lice crawling. When they asked her about it, her reply was, "Yes I know but my mum doesn't do anything about it". I have mentioned it to other parents and they have all said they have suspicions that this girl is infecting and reinfecting everyone else.

Now I spent an hour combing my daughter's hair last night and will do so every day this week and every other day for the next 2 weeks to get rid of them but I don't want her reinfected by this other girl whose mother obviously doesn't bother.

I want to call this mum and ask her to take some action for the sake of the rest of us and her own daughter.

How do I do this tactfully?

  • Scary Dog - what should I have done?

Yesterday I was in a public garden making a phone call and saw a dog which looked like a rottweiler from its body shape but had different fur - kind of shaggy reddish brown. I guess I must have stared at this dog for a moment trying to work out which breed it was as it looked unusual. Then it caught my eye, gave an aggressive growling sort of bark and came running at top speed towards me.

I'm not someone who is afraid of dogs - and I always pet them when they run up to me with tail wagging - but I've never had a dog so am not really used to them and can't really read their behaviour.

This dog scared me - I briefly looked around for its owner - but saw no-one and then dived into the nearest doorway - there was one to a cafe just behind me.

    I was really scared.

Then the dog just lumbered off looking quite normal.

What should I have done? I've never encountered this sort of situation ever!
