  • Norah Jones Song?

Is it just me or does anyone else think the Norah Jones song "Come Away with Me" is about as close as capturing sex in a song as you can get? Cool white sheets, window open with a cool breeze blowing and two become one.

  • Help me explain pricing to my partner?

What I thought was going to be easy calculations, has turned into a big problem for my partner. She states my calculations are all wrong and I'm over charging our client's. I'm going to place this question in Homework Help, as it seems a waste to place the question in Small Business.

We purchase old clothing by the pound at $5.00 per pound. Once we receive a shipment, each piece is weighed to determine how much we paid for a single piece.

Yes or no. If one piece of clothing weighs 2 pounds, technically we paid $10 for that one piece of clothing.

Our supplier packs each order in a bag that weighs 30 pounds (I recently learned each bag weighs 30 pounds because that's as high as our supplier's scales will weigh.) Based on pricing we pay (30 pounds x $5.00) $150 for each bag.

My partner believes that the number of pieces in each bag should be divided by $150 (100 pieces in one bag divided by $150 = $1.50).

Sometimes I want to slap her and tell her to go back home and get her brain. Geez, go back to the 1st grade! Since this is a new project we just started, I think the concept of "by the pound" confuses her.

She's one of those people that if you tell her the sky is blue, she'll call you a liar and say it's purple. Any idea how I can explain this to her in a way she can better understand?

  • Facebook "Block User Options"?

After a bad breakup, I used the "Block User Options" to prevent ex from having access to my Facebook page.

Facebook's Block User Options states "Once you block someone, that person can no longer see things you post on your timeline, tag you, invite you to events or groups, start a conversation with you, or add you as a friend. Note: Does not include apps, games or groups you both participate in".

While making some changes to my Facebook account, I took a look at my "Block User Page"

When I blocked my ex, I entered both name and email address. Only two entries and no more.

Looking at the "Block User Page" ex's name was listed 14 times. As mentioned above, I only made two entries. I do not use apps, games, nor a member of any group.

Is this a Facebook snafu, or has my ex tried to gain access to my account 14 times and failed? Thanks.

  • Fashionistas Help With Outfit?

There is a annual town-wide festival that is coming up soon. The event has always been held in August, one of the hottest months in the South usually do to the humidity. The festival is somewhat a homecoming for people who longer live in the town, as well as a gathering for people who still live in the town. Well if the whole town is going to be there, a lady must dress to impress.

I've come up with two options. FYI - I'm 50 years old.

    First Option

A Ralph Lauren oversize linen shirt (gives a flowing effect), black capri pants, black mules, and a black wide-brim sun hat. Probably a pin or bead necklace for a little color.

    Hat along these lines

    Second Option

A Ralph Lauren Paisley Cotton Tunic, white capri pants, a pair of Coach mules, and a white or straw colored wide-brim sun hat (much like the black on shown above) No jewelry other than earrings. This top has enough color.

  • How To Figure Horse Race Winnings Based on Odds?

How do I figure my winnings on a horse race? I played Bodemeister (2/1) in the Preakness to Win-$10, Place-$10 & Show-$10. Bodemeister didn't win, but he did place and show. What amount are my winnings based on chart below? When they post charts like below, is it usually based on a $1 or more bet? Is there a simple formula? Thanks.

    PG# HORSE

    9 I'll Have Another - WIN:$8.40; PLACE:$3.80; SHOW:$2.80

    7 Bodemeister - PLACE: $3.20; SHOW:$2.80

    6 Creative Cause - SHOW: $3.60

Looks like I'll Have Another is a contender for the Triple Crown. Bodemeister is a strong horse, but twice now I'll Have Another has taken the win by inches. I didn't take the little horse serious, looks like I will now!

  • Water Spigot Leaking Hot Water!?

The water pipes in my home are copper (the amount of copper piping in the ceiling of my basement is probably worth more than the house). While some may consider it over kill, the man who built my house in 1950 had the foresight to include water cut of values (both hot and cold) for every faucet, and toilets, inside and outside the house.

The same can be said for the washing machine. The hot water cut of value to my washer stays turned off, as I do not use hot/warm water to wash clothes. Tonight while waiting on a load of laundry to finish spinning, I noticed a drop or two of water running down the hot water hose that connects to the back of the washer. How could that be if the hot water cut of value to the machine is shut off? So I opened the cabinet door above the washer to see what was going on. I immediately notice some rust and oxidization around the stem valve where it enters the copper faucet (or spigot – don’t know why he used spigots instead of a regular multi-turn shut off valves). I ensured the shut off valve was completely turned off then turned the dial on the washer to hot and started the washer. I’m getting a full flow of hot water into the washer as if I was washing in hot water. I even let the hot water run a couple of minutes just to make sure I wasn’t getting water that could already been in the lines. The hot water never slowed down. What I don't understand is why am I getting a FULL FLOW of hot water into the washing machine if the hot water shut off valve is completely shut off? I could understand a trickle or a small flow if the spigot has a leak, but not a full flow.

The spigot is welded to the copper pipe. The plumber is going love me, isn’t he?

  • Financial Advisor's Office?

I worked on the buy side at a securities firm as an assistant before the big melt down of 2008. I have an interview coming up with a small, single financial advisor office who offers retirement, estate, budget and business planning, as well as insurance (life, long term, disability, group). Mostly IRA's, 401k, and some annuities (probably all low risk investments). Approx. 1,000 clients. My guess is the advisor is registered/certified and operates as a broker.

Other than usual meet and greet, customer database management, correspondence, etc., what would a usual day in an office like this entail? Any information is welcomed.

  • What are complex real estate valuation documents?

I spent 12 years as a administrative/document control specialist in real estate. The position included writing detailed CMA reports to present to potential clients, property research (some on online, but I've also put in my time in dusty courthouse basements) and completed documentation needed for a closing.

Currently there is a job available in my area that requires "75% of your time will be spent writing and reviewing complex real estate valuation documents".

What are "valuation documents", I assume these are county court records, tax records, appraiser evaluations, inspection reports or possibly bank records if the home was foreclosed upon (i.e. any records that would help determine the current value of a property). What documentation has changed (or what might one run into) since the 2007 - 2008 crash? Thanks.

  • My earned income credit?

Something is not right. I'm doing my taxes on Turbo Tax.

My total income for 2011 was $10,606.00 ($1505 was UI Benefits

that I did not pay taxes when I received them). I work part-time

and still looking for full-time since being laid off.

It's just me and my 11 year old. I own my own home, car and

pay property taxes, but it's not over $1,500. I don't have any investments

IRA or 401K. I take the

    Standard deduction of $8,500.00

    Personal Exemption of $7,400.00

Child Tax Credit of $916.00 (one child)

There is nothing else to my taxes. Cut and dry, well almost.

My earned income credit is $3,094.

The earned income credit knocked my Federal Refund up to $4,010 ?????

State Refund is $255.00 (The whole amount I paid in state taxes).

While I can't submit right now because it's too early, is it possible that

Turbo Tax doesn't have the right formulas in for 2011?

I have gone over my information 20 times now and everything is correct.

How in the heck am I getting a $4,010 Federal tax refund? That's ALMOST half

of what I EARNED all year, and I'm getting every penny back that I paid in state taxes.

If this is correct, it's no wonder why our government is broke. I didn't get that good of a

refund when I was making $50K and working full time. I know there's some great folks on Yahoo Answers when it comes to personal taxes. If this is correct, I'm going to be the first return to hit the Audit Department! Any suggestions?????

  • How many LOADS (not pounds) will laundry bag hold?

How many LOADS of laundry will a 30" x 40" laundry bag hold? The bag is made of cloth, not mesh, so there is little to no stretching of the bag. She uses standard/residential size, top load washers and is fair with her loads (8 to 10 premium bath towels is a load or a standard/queen mattress set of sheets (flat, fitted, and two pillow cases) is a load. Thanks.

  • Grants for Certification?

The only companies hiring in my state are hospitals. I have been an executive/administrative assistant for 20 years and excel in computer technology (I taught classes on MS products for years at a junior college and was outsourced to a hospital system in another state to teach MS products as well). In 2008 I was laid-off and found another job in a couple months, but took a $20K cut in pay. Like many others in the US, I have gone though my savings and 401K to keep my home and support my child my child on a single income. Things have gotten so bad that I’m thinking about taking in people’s laundry to wash, dry, fold and iron (I can under-cut the only laundry mat around here by $2 a load). When you’re broke you do what you have to do.

I believe I would have a better chance at landing a job with the hospital system if I take and complete courses in medical technology and medical billing and coding. I qualified for a Pell Grant with no problem, but in order to take advantage of the grant I have to be considered a full-time student. As a single mother there is no way I can balance child, 40 to 45 hours per week and college full-time.

Does anyone know if there are any grant programs out there that will allow someone to take several classes (maybe earn a certification) without being a full-time student?

  • Why did the State take over this case?

A friend fell victim to a con-artist in another state who told her that he was an attorney. He mailed her a contract to sign (which both signed) and sent it back along with a check for $8,000 as a retainer. She later found out he was not an attorney and was using the credentials of a retired attorney, so she filed a motion in the state/county where the con-artist lived with the hope of getting her money back.

Before she knew it, the state where the con-artist lived took over her case. It was no long John Doe vs. Mary Smith, as originally filed, the case was now The State vs. John Doe, and The State didn’t require her to be a witness. They just wanted the contract that both had signed, a copy of the check (front and back) and a general statement of what happened.

Is this a usual thing? Any ideas why the state took over her case?

  • What is ECW in physician's office?

Interview tomorrow with a physician's office that works under the umbrella of the largest hospital system in the area. The job description states ECW experience is preferred. My guess is this is a specific software (eCW) that allows for patient data accessible from a desktop computer, tablet PC, handheld PDA device or smart phone. In other words, it's electronic medical data.

    Thanks for the input.

  • Including Child Support as income?

When my I applied for my home loan, I was required to report my son’s child support as income, even thought his father was $22,000 in arrears at the time. I am currently renegotiating my home loan (with the same company, so they will have the original loan application information, including a copy of the child support court order).

I’m completing the paper work now, and my son’s father now owes $37,000 in back child support (he's only paid $900 in child support since I closed on the house four years ago). Currently there are no contempt charges pending because the Department of Revenue can’t even find him.

Do I still have to include the child support as income?

  • What would you play for someone else to do your laundry?

On average it takes $20.00 per week to do laundry at a laundry mat. Taking into consideration the time and cost to do this job that we all hate, would you pay an additional $5 for someone to do the job for you? (two day turn around time).

Would you pay an additional $5.00 to have your laundry picked up and dropped off at your home? Would you pay an additional $.50 per item to be ironed and $1.00 for shirts (with or without starch).

  • Want to Cancel Credit Card?

Today I received notice from Capitol One stating my current card’s expiration date is approaching, so they’ve begun processing my replacement card. Capital One will send me another e-mail within three weeks letting you know when my new card has been mailed.

I don’t use this card. In fact, it's in my sock drawer right now. In the past Capital One has billed me $40 for the annual fee and I’ve just paid it. Based on the information above, I can now cancel this card without feeling obligated to pay the annual fee. This is a card I applied for many years ago and the credit limit on the Capitol One Master Card is only $500.

Will it hurt my credit if I call and cancel the account? I have worked very hard to get my three credit scores to, or a little above, 750. While not great by today’s standards, you should have seen it three years ago after my divorce (mid 500’s). Will I pay the annual fee to keep my credit score, yes, but I don’t want to. So how bad will it hurt me?

    Thanks

  • Dealership vs. Jiffy Lube?

I drive a 2008 Toyota Camry. My husband says the oil should only be changed at the dealership where we bought the car. Oil changes are not covered under warranty, right?

Can you please tell me what difference, if any, it would make if I had the oil changed at the local Jiffy Lube? They do the same checks (fluids, filters and vacuum, etc.). Does it hurt a car if the last time the oil was changed, the Toyota dealership used Valvoline, but Jiffy Lube will use Pennzoil? What’s the difference between the oil filter Jiffy Lube will use versus an oil filter that has Toyota printed on it. Car has “real” oil in it now? Any difference between real oil and synthetic oil?

  • How come banks aren’t being punished?

I can only imagine the answers I’m going to get on this question, but why is the US government allowing banks to foreclose on people’s homes, especially when the bank’s lending practices is the major cause of the current US economic breakdown (not to mention that they also gained on failed loans by betting against them)? In 2008, banks ran to the government asking for help and TARP was born.

I’m not talking about sub-prime loans here, as most of those loans failed in 2009. I’m talking about homes where the owners have been in their houses for five, ten, fifteen plus years. I understand that the government is not supposed to get involved in free enterprise, but that conception flew out the window when banks accepted TARP (tax payer) money (I don’t care if they paid the money back or not).

Banks write bad loans, banks worthless paper sends the US economy almost over the edge, banks are bailed out of the situation they caused themselves by the government, banks get back on their feet, the economy does not, banks foreclose on home loans because homeowner lost their job due primarily to the banks bad loans. How come banks aren’t being punished?

This is a clear case of “having your cake and eating it too”. Just trying to make sense of it all.
